Making Con-tact

Cannes has Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the Croisette. Sundance has Robert Redford on the slopes. And Comic-Con? It's got Klingons in Renaissance costumes running around downtown San Diego.

From July 26 to 29, tens of thousands of devoted pop culture fans will descend upon Southern California for the largest gathering of sci-fi and fantasy enthusiasts held on this or any planet. It's been called Woodstock for geeks, but these days it's a whole lot more. The annual Comic-Con convention is now one of the most critical industry events on the calendar, as important to Hollywood as any festival in France or Utah.

After reading that article I just have to share.
When I started with the Comic-Con I was about 20 years old. a peopn volunteer who worked on a register all day. I moved on, and started wearing a radio...
at that time, and in a way we still do, we used to have parties, and awards that served food and had a low attndance count. A sit down meal.

I ended up in line one time behind Sergio Argones.
I had no idea who he was, or what he did, other than draw; but I knew he was a someone. Everyone came over and talked to him while we were in line, and even at the buffet.

I still never knew what he did, or who he drew for (till that article) and really, it didnt matter.

But do you know, that man has never forgotten to say hello to me? All these years, and weight later, he recognizes, has a smile, and a hello, for someone he kept stalling the buffet line in front of.

Cool article but whaaaat? The El Cortez??? *sigh* Does no one know what the San Diego Community Concourse it? I went to my first concert there, Golden Hall, @ about 8 yrs.. {yeah, the same one I eventually vacuumed I won't mention how many years later}.

Right, Ponine, it was always held at the Concourse prior to the Convention Center??? He described it just as the Hubster did.
