Sorry, partially my fault. People were still posting here while the moving operation was happening, I posted in the wrong thread. The rest of the posts will be moved momentarily.

Jericho [one of my new favorite shows] was canceled because it lost too many viewers after the mid-season break.

Why don't the networks realize that it takes time to build an audience? West Wing, L&O and The Simpsons didn't have an insta-audience. And if they are upset that viewers disappeared after the mid-season break why not get rid of the mid-season break?

I wholeheartedly agree that the topic needs to be moved, but I am curious to know if Nephy is locked out of the discussion if it goes there.

If so, I can see how this might be yanking the carpet out from under her. If not, than no more needs to be posted in this thread on the topic.

Because they wouldn't have anything new to air during sweeps.

What really needs to be done is to do away with the concept of sweeps. Essentially, only the ratings during certain months of the year (February, May, July, November) are what advertisers and networks consult to bargain for advertising prices. So they save all of their "best" (or at least ratings-grabbing) stuff for those months. I still can't believe advertisers buy into that b.s. since it means they're agreeing to pay rates for inflated ratings. Stupid.

sort of along these lines, Arbitron has been hounding me of late to 'participate in their nationwide survey' of (who knows or cares what...radio stations I think). they even sent me a nice crisp new dollar bill to try and bribe me to participate, then proceed to call me twice nightly urging me to take part.

nothing will piss me off faster than someone trying to obligate me to do something for them through some sort of guilt bribery...even as pathetic a bribe as this was.

you'd have thought they'd get the message last time when I wrapped their dollar in packing tape, sent their entire package back to them and wrote a nice note telling them to permanently remove me from their list and shove the dollar up their collective a$$

I guess not.
so, this time I kept the dollar.

(yeah, they caught me on a bad day...again)

I hope they cleaned the dollar before they sent it back to you.

So enlighten me .
What was the purpose of the packing tape? I would think that would encourage the person recieving the parcel to make sure they ignored your request to remove, and actually put you on their list twice.

Whats wrong with calling them and asking?

tried that, as well as email and even answering their repetitive phone calls.
and still they keep sending it. this has gone on for years now.

sadly since theyre not "selling" anything, theyre exempt from the national dont call list.

so now I just keep the dollar and ignore them. but its not nearly as satisfying

For anyone who wants to add their name to a national "Do Not Mail" list, there is one available. It is managed by the Direct Marketers Association (DMA), a national trade organization for Direct Marketers. It is easy to join their Do Not Mail registry. Just go to their web site http://www.the-dma.org/ and click the "Remove my name from mailing lists.

The DMA will add your name and address to a list that responsible direct mail marketers will use to run their mailing lists against. In the direct mail business, we call it the Pander list and use it on most all of our mailings (we don't use it in cases where the organization, most commonly a non-profit, supplies us a list of past contributors/participants or other such "house" lists).

Of course, this is not a guarantee that you will be removed from all mail lists - it is a voluntary procedure. And anyone who is doing a saturation mailing (where it goes to every Postal address) will not do a suppression, but it should help keep you off some of the lists.
