				            | Having ridden both day and night, I say day is better in the lagoon. Obviously there is no difference once in the caves... er "dive deep."

| Kink of Swank | Ok, since no one local could hold their water long enough for us all to ride it for the first time together next weekend, I indulged zapppop's outrageous anticipation and rode the Subs today. We got to the park at the stroke of 8:00 opening ... and had to wait 2.5 hours to ride. zapppop enjoyed it. I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Yeah, the Mission Tortia Factory screens just complely wreck it for me. I was complely spoiler free, so I had hoped the incredible dry-for-wet technology was there to protect complicated anamatronics and not TV screens. B.A.H. I enjoyed many of the set dressings. The mine explosion was great. The jellyfish were cool. And yeah, the only good screen thing was when the animation interacted with the "live" jellies. (Though some of the scenes where screens were in the far background were also alright, I suppose). I know it's difficult to tackle swimming creatures in audioanimatronic form ... but I just see zero point to having a ride version of an animated film that is simply the actual animation of the film. Pffooft. And what happened to the idea (admittedly assumed) that we as the audience would be looking for Nemo? This is a botch-job, if you ask me. A real let-down. I'm glad I'll have no desire to ride the ride with the 3-hour queue. And just like the Subs of old, I will ride once or twice a year ... and really appreciate the activity in the Lagoon. Yes, better than The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh .... but far worse than Monsters, Inc. If this was John Lassiter's big idea for Pixar E-Tickets at Disneyland ... the future just got a lot more dim. . |

Monsters Inc is waaay below FNSV. The challenge in building this attraction was to have animated character in an area complete submerged in water, that (like the water) moved fluidly & swift. I think using projections in boxes successfully did that. Considering the type of attraction the Submarine Voyage is, I think the projections were a good idea & not necessarily a warning/signal that all future attractions will feature more projections and fewer 3 dimensional backgrounds & characters. I think the fact that Lasseter saved the subs from a watery grave and turned them into something new & fun (and spent over $150 million doing so) is a sign that there are good things in Disneyland's future. If only the park didn't have to suffer the wrath of Eisner, Pressler & Harris. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage; I like it

| Kink of Swank | Wow, we are so completely polar opposite on our opinions about this ride. What exactly is the point to so immensely creating an underwater environment to the extent that you go into a partially-submersed vehicle to actually view things UNDER WATER ... only to watch TV? I simply don't get it. As soon as I see those movie screens ... the same kind of thing happens to me when I see the movie bride in the Haunted Mansion. I'm out of it. The entire illusion of going underwater and viewing things in liquid space is thrown out the window .... because I am intimately familiar with projected images and KNOW that Dory and Marlin and Co. are not under water. They are a film. It's cheap. I hate it for the same reason I dislike Star Tours and frelling despise the new Bride. Darla is the best thing about FNSV. She's an underwater 3-D figure in one of the Disneyland's most elaborately-constructed 3-D environments. Everything else is lame. One more early morning viewing. One nighttime viewing, hopefully at closing - so we can extend our stay till after 2 am ... and then I am done with the new Submarine Voyage. Oh, but I like the Sub-theme Monorail. Hey, it's not even a condom! |

| Nueve | Best part about your respective opinions... you rode the same ride at the same time. I love it!

| BRAAAAAAAINS! | Rose and I *almost* staggered back to Disneyland today, after closing the park last night - Rose really enjoyed the Subs... but we ended up riding Mummy and Jurassic Park, followed by an awesome afternoon nap. The thing I liked about the Subs is there seems to be a lot more depth to the sets - but unfortunately, they just about threw away one of the best opportunities to "sell" a part of the illusion. The sunken "butt" sequence - Why oh why couldn't they have used a physical prop of Bruce menacing the sub?!? The surrounding set was beautiful, and then it was TV time... |

| I Floop the Pig | Aw, Steve, no "props" for the Angler fish? I know it was diminished by the surrounding screenage, as well as the waaaay too drawn out runup (okay, I get it, there glowing things), oh and the pathetically lame lack-of-reveal when you're in the back. But you gotta admit it's a pretty cool figure. Of course, it just puts in stark relief how much better it is than the screens.

| Kink of Swank | Yeah, the angler-fish was cool. We were in the exact middle of the boat, but the timing of the reveal was all off. Also, as it had been one of my only spoilers (Kevin Yee raved about the similar effect for Florida's Nemo Lite), I was rather disappointed it wasn't something spectacular. But yeah, as one of the actual figures ... it gets high marks from me. As do the few old skool turtles who were figures (heheh, one of them was on the half-shell, with all of its "works" revealed). |
