I rode twice this evening. I am 100% certain that the sub remains in water the entire time. There are clear barriers that I can tell are there and a couple of times I was able to specifically see it (on the starboard side, right as you enter the whale's mouth was one of them).

Also, I frequently checked and was able to see the surface of the water above me.
I am pretty certain the subs remain in water the entire time and that the projections are behind a clear screen (or on a clear screen).

That's what I was trying to say - I don't now if it came across that way.

Regardless of my indifference to the actual ride, I am very glad that if the lagoon is going to continue existing that something is actually happening in it.

Though it would have been a lot cheaper to just put submarine tops on tracks and rotate them through the lagoon without anything in them.

I'm also somewhat tickled to think (based on how often I still had people emailing me to ask if I knew the subs were gone) that in a year when the "reopening" hubbub dies down how many "twice-in-a-lifetime" park visitors will ride the subs never even realizing that they were gone.

I saw this as well. The glass is about two feet from the sides of the sub. We're underwater, but the majority of the scenery isn't.
