Wow. I had an ex-boyfriend who's dormmate in college drank cough syrup (while still collecting sobriety chips at AA meetings, unfortunately).

I've also heard of people drinking nail polish remover & rubbing alcohol, which in scent, quite honestly doesn't differ much from vodka.

However, this does seem rather desperate, especially when one can purchase Thunderbird or Mad Dog for quite a steal.
