As for what will really happen with me... I'm heading down tomorrow to see if I can *still* reserve a copy at B&N. I can't do the late night thing.... but... If I can pick it up ASAP sans midnight line, then awesome. If the ressies are all gone by tomorrow, I'll just order it online and start reading it whenever it arrives.

Chances are, as much as I'd like to commit myself to this weekend, I could just as easily work on a paper and read later as anything else. LOVE my malleable schedule! Just gotta not go on teh intrawebs in the meanwhile...

What's all this stuff about "reserving" books? Last time there was a pyramid built out of them in my grocery store. I expect truckloads in every corner store.

When you receive the book on Saturday, are you going to enjoy reading the book? or is it more of a speed reading contest to get to the end to see what happens? It seems like a significant amount of time is being spent to "beat" everyone else so that any surprises aren't spoiled.

Nope, immersion and sheer enjoyment of being curled up on the couch with the book. That's how I've read them all. Of course, for GoF, I did not move off the couch for hours.....

See, that's not at all the reason I'm pre-ordering. Suggested price from the publisher and the price for a pre-order are significantly different enough to warrant a pre-order, especially since I need to be cost-conscious. Why pay $38 (or whatever it's supposed to be) when I can pay $18(amazon.com) to $20-something(B&N)?

It's not about speed reading... it's about marathon reading. Enjoying it, and doing so to the exclusion of other activities because all you can think about is what's going to happen next.

Two books ago, I was still working at Disney, and CMs literally brought the book to work with them and read for their entire breaks. You get so sucked into it that you can't wait till the end of the work day to read more. There were CMs all over backstage with books in hand that first week.
