Awww man, ginormous is a real word now? That takes all the fun out of it!
(Haha, at least spell check still thinks it's fake!)

Oh... And while I'm in a mood... I want to point out that "Ginormous" was a "real word" the second people started using it.

Yes, being in Webster's does not make it a real word. That's merely an overdue acknowledgment of its realwordness.
ETA: Webster's will never admit it, but fvcktard is a real word. |

I recognize that languages evolve but some of it just makes me cringe. I died a little when it was pointed out to me that "aint" is in the dictionary.

I prefer a dynamic langauge that allows for such changes even if some do make me cringe - I still prefer that to having some English academy declaring what are and are not appropriate words for our langauge

By no means am I grammar nazi or a proscriptionist. Language is how it is used. If enough people say nukular then that is how it is pronounced (or at least an acceptable pronunciation). And so on.
But that doesn't prevent me from thinking that certain utterances make the utterer sound pretty darn stupid. |

I never use that word. I find it silly.

I like it. It makes me think of Elf, which makes me smile. But I do understand how it could annoy someone. It's not a real word, and I'm sure it could be overused.

Is Elf where it came from? That would explain why it seemed to come out of the blue.
