I hate to sound like an idiot, but I honestly don't remember at the moment. I just remember it bugging me. If it still bugs me after watching the new episodes I'm sure that will refresh my mind of the reasons and I can come back to give them.

Ok, once again I come to back to look like an idiot... I just watched all four of this week's episodes and the format didn't bug me at all this year. Nothing seems to have changed really, but for some reason i was fine with it this year, even though i wans't last year. Changing taste perhaps?

I think what I didn't like previously was the host. I get the idea, he's meant to be like a spelling bee guy or something, but he just seemed uninteresting to me previously. He seems more laid back and quirky-fun this year though. Perhaps it was the way he read off rap song lyrics that amused me.
