Hah, no, from somewhere beyond the grandstands.

At the moment, I believe I'm about 52% fried batter.

The closest we get to a demolition derby is the Bakersfield Speedway. It is a dirt track and most people go to see the wrecks and don't really care who wins the race. I enjoyed going, but my sinus would get so full of all the crud in the air...well... I will leave it at that.

Today begins another wonderful work week. bleh.

So, I'm tired, bone tired. Spent the weekend at the Castro Theater at the SF Silent FIlm Festival, even though I wimped out on a couple of programs, I saw a lot of movies this weekend. None later than 1927 and the earliest being 1900. I saw an archivist light a swatch of nitrate film on stage (and it does burn bright and fast), really good theater. I met Leonard Maltin, though did not get nearly enough time to talk with him. I sat next to JB Kaufman for a couple of movies (the nicest guy, really). I got to hang with some of the board members, who were a hoot and a half. Robert Osborne (of TCM) had the best intro-aside on a film star. He was talking about Nazimova and the 1921 Camille (which also starred a 20 year old Rudolph Valentino) and commented on her acting, and also her hairdo for the film "Her head looks like it exploded." I enjoyed a few minutes conversation with Judy (Wyler) Sheldon, daughter of William Wyler and enjoyed talking about Gregory Peck, and Roman Holiday in which she had her 15 seconds of fame. My final schmooze was a delightful 5 minutes with William Wellman Jr. about Wings and his work promoting the films of his fabulous father. He did mention sometime this fall he will likely be presenting the 1927 Wings at the Egyptian. If I can, I will come down for it, I think it is a movie well worth having a swanking for, it's a corker! This year, the SF Silent Film Festival held a raffle, and winners were drawn before each film. I bought 3 in the hopes for a shopping spree at the McRossky Matress Co (We're Better in Bed") - alas, I did not win that, but I did hold a winning ticket and obtained a very nice photograph from a local artist in their movie theatre series of photos. A great weekend, but though the seats at the Castro are newish, I'm a bit stiff and tired and bleary-eyed today. It was great and I can hardly wait for next year.

so...

how do YOU fend off a foul mood?

some days they just happen. had a good weekend, decent sleep, plenty of caffine...not really anything actively working to piss you off, yet none the less you just feel like biting a chunk out of anything and anyone unlucky enough to come near you.

what do you do?

Well, first, while I'm still in a foul mood, I warn people I ave to work with, stay away, I'm grouchy. This avoids other problems.

Then, I listen to music I like, and try to let the mood pass, or if I have a significant gripe with the world, I call a friend or email a vent to help me get over it.

Me loves Capt. Jack, so bite away.
