To a fellow Dave fan.
Oh no! How could I have missed this!?!
![]() Well GC, in wishing a belated though very Happy Birthday to one of the proudest monkeys around, I am somewhat at a loss as I have so much to say. The emotions crash into me like a freight train. In this cavernous warehouse of my mind it’s a typical situation; the words all mingle together like a thousand ants marching to and fro, each choosing to drive in & drive out of my thoughts with no rhyme and reason. It’s almost enough to make me say goodbye, or at least run into these crowded streets and cry, “Freedom!” Yet, I do not want to let you down, lest we someday lie in our graves feeling the crush of wondering if all this was really the best of what’s around? I mean, what would you say if you missed someone’s birthday? Would you do a two step, as if you were a dancing Nancy stumbling around, tripping Billies as the band plays riffs reminiscent of a classic Jimi thing? If it is true that you pay for what you get, then like Rapunzel one may end up locked inside a watchtower, never able to see their lover lay down before them, their only company a stone and a spoon. Though, I do not think that will be your fate. You have the charm and soul to soar to the highest of heights, like a satellite in our eyes, where you can stay, wasting time like #41 in line at Disneyland, or a child on Halloween about to pig out on candy. I don’t know quite what to say, but I hope that for your birthday you climbed your dreaming tree and felt content that even if there is something you want that you’ve not got, what you need is all around you. And if you party too hearty and end up under a table and dreaming, just remember to take a Tylenol, check your fly, don’t drink the water, and make sure that your Pantala doesn’t naga your Pampa. Happy Birthday! (Oh, and this is for you.) ![]() ![]() |

What a day yesterday was. Everyone in my office decorated my cubicle with signs and crepe paper. Very nice. They also presented me with a cake after lunch and sang Happy B-Day and gave me a card everyone signed.
Ralphie and I went to a really good Thai restaurant for lunch. The sun was out so we took a walk during lunch. Very nice to get in those rare rays in Monterey. After work, Ralphie and I and a good number of people I know all gathered for pizza at Gianni's in Monterey. It's a great pizza place and a good place for our friends to let their kids run around. My good friends Kathy and Karla got me a movie kit for my BDay. It was a survival pack chocked full of candy and popcorn for movie watching. They know how much I love my old movies on DVD and on TCM, so they got me a kit to snack on during the next film festival that I host. My wonderful friend Jeannie got me a hardcover version of the book 'James and the Giant Peach'. Love that story. Ralphie got me the entire French and Saunders collection on DVD. I'm so happy about that. He also got me an antique Buddha statue and a sterling silver spoon from London circa 1920. They're both beautiful. I spoke with my parents when I got home and got to view this wonderful thread before bed. Again, thank you. What a wonderful day. |
