AFI 40th Anniversary - October 3 2007
On Wednesday, October 3, Target will be hosting screenings at the ArcLight in Hollywood in celebration of AFI's 40th anniversary. 11 classic American films, all being screened at the same time. Each film will be presented by a star of filmmaker. Tickets go on sale September 19. They're $25 each, and include popcorn and a soda. So which one would you go see?

Hmmm, this is a tough choice.
I've never seen (believe it or don't) Spartacus, I love Bonnie & Clyde and Shawshank (if only Tim Robbins were presenting, then it would be a no-brainer for me) If it were Mary Poppins with Julie Andrews, that would get me down there. Sound of Music, nope. The Birds with Tippi Hendren, tempting...... I do have a plane ticket sitting idle with JetBlue........except this is on a school night. ![]()

I would probably vote for Morgan Freeman presents Shawshank, Clint Eastwood presents Unforgiven or Crystal and Reiner present When Harry Met Sally.

HI!
|
Spartacus. I've never seen it on a big screen and haven't seen it in a very long time. Plus, I sort of like ornery ole' Kirk.

Probably Spartacus simply because I've never seen it on the big screen and it is a big screen movie. I'll be un-PC and say I'd almost prefer not seeing Kirk Douglas though. His recovery since his strokes is remarkable and inspiring but I get very uncomfortable watching how other people react to him, not so much as a person but like a precocious child. And that makes me sad.
No interest in The Birds (rare Hitchcock that I simply don't like), The Sound of Music (seeing it once is enough for me), Star Wars (I suspect I'll go the rest of my life never seeing this again; I'd be mostly burned out on it even without the abomination the industry has become), When Harry Met Sally (loved it but don't think it ages well). Second place would probably go to Unforgiven, third to Shawshank, and fourth to Bonnie & Clyde. |

Let the Wookie win. Star Wars is a thing of beauty on the big screen.

My parents took my brother and I to see the PG-13 Spartacus when it was released again in theaters, so I'm going with The Sound of Music, since it's a favorite film and I've never seen it on the big screen. My Captain HUGE before my eyes. Will my heart be able to stand it? Probably not.

The LAST movie I would see would be George Lucas presenting Star Wars.
And you all know what a big Star Wars fan I am. ![]() But seeing the man who massacred Star Wars present his massacred version of Star Wars would make me seriously angry. Almost as angry as I am that I can attend ANY of them. I'm performing a wedding that night. The first half of a wedding which concludes 3 days later in Las Vegas, causing me to miss 1) Gay Days; 2) Beat Hotel Substitute Retreat; and 3) my friends who live in Las Vegas who will be in Los Angeles that weekend. Missing this splended AFI thing is just rancid icing on the devil's food cake. Oh well, at least I won't go through the torture of choosing, because it's a VERY tough choice. I picked Tippi Hedren for The Birds because that sounds like the most hysterical. Jack Nicholson was my runner-up ... but since I've hung out with him before, I'd rather go with someone I've never met (and I was disappointed Tippi was not out at her Tiger ranch when we ventured out there a few years back.) I'd also love to see Julie Andrews, but really can't stand The Sound of Music. Angela Lansbury introducing Beauty and the Beast would also be sublime. Ugh, so hard to choose. But I really wish I could do at least one. B-A-H. ![]() |
