Seal Beach did have a rollercoaster, but it burned down in the early 30s(?) - I know it burned down, but I don't recall the date.

Good memory! I did some research, and you are correct. The area was called the "Joy Zone".

Another way to attract tourists was to build an amusement area. The “Joy Zone” was built adjacent to the first pier, a wooden affair advertised as the longest pier south of San Francisco. Hoards of beach-goers came to Seal Beach to picnic, “ocean bathe,” or ride the big roller coaster that whisked riders around the rickety tracks at high speeds. A large structure was erected at the foot of the pier. The first floor served as a bathhouse, while the second story was the Jewel Café dance hall, a great place for young people to congregate after a day in the surf or playing in the Joy Zone.
