I worked yesterday then took Thurston for a play date with 3 Corgies. I've never seen him run, hop and play like that. It was adorable - and it wore him out. We then took Thurston to 2nd Street for his first dinner out. He was such a good boy sitting patiently by the table while we ate our crepes. It made a Mommy proud. We didn't buy anything either - except for some haystacks and a dog "pizza".

Just got rid of Wolfette for the day (she's off to Legoland), so Christmas shopping is planned for us at Target and DL.

The answer is Adventureland/Frontierland attractions. I'll let you ask the question.

In other news, I started putting up Christmas decorations. Turns out one of the trees I bought of the $2.50 shelf at Target was put together upside down. Hilarious. I'm keeping it.

Got almost all my Christmas shopping done yesterday. I think there's smoke coming off my card.

And how am I spending my 4-day weekend, you might ask? Mostly in the bathroom - as I have the worst food poisoning I think I've ever had. According to the scale, in the last 24 hours I've lost 6 pounds - which can't be a good thing. I mean, it's a good thing, but not under these circumstances.

I've learned that my dream bike doesn't exist. What I want is a front suspension frame, which makes it a hardtail (*not* a full suspension like everybody seems determined to try and sell me), with good brakes and good shifters.

The hardtails (if they have any in stock, which they usually don't) come with the cheapest components. The full-suspension bikes come with the components I want. Everybody seems to get confused when I say I don't want a full suspension one. The guy at the bike shop today asked why and then tried to convince me I should get a full bike anyway. Hubby made the point that he was trying to sell me what he had instead of what I want, with a second line of offering to order a bike for me.

Why is it so difficult to understand that I don't want a rear suspension???? I don't want the bike because it's cheap I want it for what it is. Hardtail. A seat that holds *still*.

Oh, yeah, and no frames seem to fit me. If I can stand over it, it's going to be too small for the seat-to-handlebars length. If the reach is right it's too tall.

GRUMP.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Somehow, the manufacturers seem have done a good job convincing bike shops that suspension bikes are 'better' than hardtails, but the frame is just one piece of the pie. I've had excellent components on a relatively lousy frame, and still considered it a great riding bike. I just found a bike shop in my area that seems to understand- I'm trying to convince Rose to let me order up a bike from them so I can get back on the trails.

Likely solution- get the suspension bike that has all the goodies on it, get my hardtail frame, and transfer everything over to it. I've currently got a bike, but it's a total rigid and not so good on washboard trail bits. I've been riding it for a year or so, but I'd really like something better.

Got in 14 miles today which was nice. I could feel it, though, having not been on a bike in a week and a half or so.

Matt, I wish you luck in your quest for a trail bike.
