Sign for Bella Notte Cafe=Lady and the Tramp.
Arguable "Hairspray" cameo for Corny. Cameo I would have liked to have seen: the Ghostbusters showing up at the end. I basically loved it. And it validated my reservations about "Ratatouille" in that there's nothing cuddly about vermin in the kitchen. Poor Timothy Spall. I hadn't known he was in the movie, but as soon as I saw the animated character, I said to myself, "That's going to be Timothy Spall." And, opinions please: my wife and I disagree on whether they had gotten married by the end. I say they hadn't. My wife thought it was just a decision not to show us two weddings in the closing montage. I wasn't so bothered by the required shopping scene, as I was by the equally stereotypical finish where someone starts up a kicky business.

We just saw it on Christmas Eve. We took all the kids and everybody really enjoyed it. During the beginning animated portion I was a bit worried that it was going to be a dud, but I put my faith in the reviews I read and hoped that what I was seeing had a purpose and was going somewhere. Indeed, it did pay off.
Since we saw it later in the run we were in a smaller theater, but it was still packed. Mostly with kids. But all the kids were very entertained and there were no inappropriate outbursts. There were outbursts though, but the kind that only added to the hilarity on screen. For example, when Giselle tells Edward that she wants to go on a date, my youngest child blurts out (loud enough for the whole theater to hear) "What's a date?" just seconds before Edward asks the same question. At first I was worried my son's outburst would ruffle some feathers, but everyone around us seemed to think it was pretty funny. I did not catch any of the cameos, but I did catch the "Bella Note Cafe" sign. Of course, that one was practically screaming at me. I'm sure we'll be seeing it again when it comes out on DVD so I'll get more chances to see the other easter eggs throughout. |
