A great awards show made even better by the company with whom it was viewed. Kudos to LSPE and Tom for hosting a lovely gathering with such a mélange of treats.

My favorite moment of the show was when Jon Stewart brought out Marketa Irglova to give her thanks that she had been denied by the timer. Pure class.

The "Lawrence of Arabia on an iPhone" joke reminded me of this great spoof on the iPhone commercials using footage of David Lynch.

Y'all know that bringing Marketa Irglova out again wasn't Stewart's decision, right? I mean, still a classy move on the part of the producers, but Stewart doesn't have that kind of power as emcee.

I am with you on Jennifer Hudson (just not a flattering look for her at all) and Tilda looked like she was wearing a potato sack.

Don't know if its true yet, but I've seen a couple sites mention a rumor that it was Colin Farrell (the presenter of that award) that started the fuss to get her some time to speak.

Cool if true, and an even more unlikely source for getting a change in the schedule.

According to Access Hollywood, it was all Gil Cates:

Oscar producer Gil Cates said the show director was looking down and queued the music when Hansard finished speaking.
"She was accidentally played off. No one wanted to play her off. … I asked her to come back. I asked Jon to please bring her back. It was a very emotional moment."

Oops on the looking down bit on the part of the director...but I always thought they "cued" not "queued."

We may never know, but I don't know why people are assuming the host doesn't have that kind of clout. You need a big wake-up call, because he does. That's not to say the producer wasn't consulted or that it was even Jon's idea. But if he was the one who thought of it, he has the power to make it so.


And it was the show's best moment, so kudos to whomever arranged it. Plus her Thank You was teh awesome.

It was a great knock on the tacky musical cane-hook that belongs on the Gong Show and NOT the Academy Awards.
