One of our cats (Rufio) LOVES to be outside (keeping him strictly indoors was never an option). At the end of the night, if he is not in, I go looking for him.

Not only does he respond when I call his name, he walks home with me. I do not need to pick him up or anything, he just scoots along side me as I walk home and in the door.

I love that cat!

It's important for their psyche for them to be able to distinguish when they are actively ignoring you from when they're just ignoring you by default.
