You can pick up an upconverting (aka upconversion) DVD player for pretty cheap (under $100). DVD movies start showing digital artifacting (i.e. jaggy edges) when they're blown up past a certain size, and an upconverting DVD player will help minimize that.

Make sure it's connected to the TV via a component video cable (it's a 5 plug deal) or HDMI cable (if your TV has one).

This is somewhat true, depending on your set. Definitely hook up your regular DVD player and have a look at one of the Pixar films. Our TV does a jaw-dropping job with our old player and old DVDs. At least, jaw-dropping in comparison to the old TV.

Thanks Cherney. Okay, I just looked up the DVD player that got tossed in for free and it is an upconverting DVD player. I've got all the cables, too, so we're good to go. Sweet!
