No, Kevy, I said the swell ideas!
We love being tourists in our own city, so anytime anybody wants to join us on an outing (and that includes the mammoth-petting backstage tour) just let us know! |

The closest I've come to the tar pits is walking around the outside. I want to see the pits for real and the museum. ![]()

Oh, we can TOTALLY swank it up at the tar pits. It's in a fun area of town, too, so we could do a post-swanking in, like, museum row or little Ethiopia...
We should probably wait a few months (my mother-in-law teaches at a nursing school when she's not volunteering, and her stint just started again yesterday.) Plus, in the summer she can take us down to the pit where they're actually digging! We had a total blast yesterday, too. Our Disney lot "un-tour" was awesome, we just got to wander wherever we wanted to. And that included into the archives, which was so effin' cool as a fan that I geeked out in front of the kids. I even got to see the snow globe from Mary Poppins! The bedknob from Bedknobs and Broomsticks! The costumes from High School Musical II! (That's cool, apparently, if you're eleven. It was a hit with the girls.) The boys loved their Warner tour - saw a couple of celebrities, including Gina Torres from Serenity (Tom said she's even more beautiful in person, which I find shocking because I think she's just about the most beautiful woman ever.) Then while waiting for us to finish up at Disney, they went to Universal Citywalk and the two older boys went skydiving in a simulator bubble. (We got to watch the video - both of us want to do it now!) Then we all met up to stop by Jetset to see my office and their beloved pal Audra, who was also able to join us for dinner (we were so happy to have her.) Next stop was Venice beach, where some waded in and others decided just to jump on in and bodysurf in their clothes. Nobody could remember swimming in the ocean before; it was hugely popular. Also popular was the Venice boardwalk, thanks to a number of unusual and inappropriate tee-shirts, towels, paraphenalia and people. One of the favorite stories of the trip has been the "world's greatest wino" (or so it said on his sign - though we pretty much agree) who walked around singing "jingle bells, jingle bells, help me get drunk." For Catholic-school fifteen, thirteen and eleven-year-olds, this kind of thing is fascinating. Now we depart for parts Disneylandia! All are excited. (Me too.) We're pretty proud of the trip that we planned. They gave us control to come up with what we thought they'd enjoy - and so in return, we've blown their little minds with the goodness of L.A... one of the teenagers has decided he's going to retire here to volunteer at the tar pits like my MIL, and bodysurf in the off-hours. |
