you could. not everything has to be high dollar hand fitted brass and machined bronze fittings.

I think you could do a lot with simpler materials and a few creative ideas

Sorry, but precious metals and fantastic woods are the essence of Steampunk creations. You can't do it with tin and plywood.

From Tref's thread on abandoned buildings, I poked around the site and found a place in Ryhope, England that EH needs to raid:

after seeing (and napping in the loving shade of) the steampunk treehouse, I think I can effectively disagree with that statement. it was raw, rusted, funky and beautiful. no precious metals or exotic woods anywhere to be seen
