As someone who has never smoked a cigarette, I have to say that this was the best piece I've ever written on it. Your outsider perspective helps you perfectly capture something I've never understood. My parents smoke, my brothers smoke, lots of my friends smoke, but I have never felt compelled to even try. You explained so many angles of smoking....I'm just stunned, I really don't know what else to say.

Doesn't make me want to start though. It makes it seem even more insidiously evil.

Good! After the responses here I think I may have failed to capture the many nuances of smoking and only hit on the positives.

I don't think you only hit on the positives. I think it depends on the readers perspective. For those of us who did smoke, it may remind us of a time when it was forbidden and how it felt when we started. Those feelings and emotions are long gone.

It's an excellent piece T.

Very nice job! I have smoked only about a half a pack, one at a time to help keep me awake in the middle of the night when I was a security guard. If I felt myself nodding off, I would take a few hits and the high would help me stay awake for the rest of the night.

Perhaps this is I'm never an Ahole to smokers. This is, however, a very personal snipet into this activity. I enjoyed reading it, thanks!
