According to Wiki page, about 45 countries have gas that is more expensive than in the United States (in US dollars).

Iceland, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Denmark, and Norway are all above $8/gallon.

Of course, huge portions (compared to the U.S.) of those amounts are tax.

I don't doubt it at all. Most of those countries have decent public transportation systems.

The closest public transportation option is a bus stop (not a park and ride) 3 miles away and then it would take an additional 2 hours to get to work.

Well, if that makes people more accepting of gas prices (and I'm guessing that the quality subway in Paris is little balm to the villager in the sticks of France) then at this point in time I kindly ask that all the whiners in San Francisco shut up.

Not more accepting, but there are feasible options to driving longer distances.
