Daa Train
Can someone help me figure out the
I found their site, I found their schedule but I cannot find out their fees. Their schedule is a little confusing too. I was thinking that it would be a good alternative to still be able to see my friends in LA and to take it to hockey games. I live right by the Irvine train station. I thought the train wouldn't be an option to either since it was so expensive but I was looking at Amtrak rates and not the Halp please. Last edited by BarTopDancer : 06-15-2008 at 11:16 AM. |

Surfliner is Amtrak - I think what you are looking for is Metrolink

Try the trip planner they have. I think that gets you to the fees for the route you're planning.

If you want to buy a multiple ticket, you will have to decide if you want multiples from Irvine-Anaheim or from Irvine - LA. The Irvine - LA is more expensive since it is on multiple train lines.
I would think there would be a way to buy multiples for the Irvine - Anaheim and then pay for the additional fare of the line you transfer to in the LA area. It will be easier to figure out the best deal if you give an idea of what your usage/month would be. A monthly pass gives you unlimited rides, but it is usually meant for a weekly commuter, so if you aren't traveling that often it might be a better deal to go with the 10 ticket pack. |

I'm with Steph on this idea. I've been getting a better idea on what these sorts of fares are all about and determining usage is the key to getting the most for your money. They should have some sort of package set up on it.
I would also ask EH for advice on this one, as she's quite accustomed to public trans.

Right now I could take the Metro to a game, but wouldn't be able to make it home. Hopefully they expand service in the near future. The LA trips would be completely different and I'd probably buy the tickets once in awhile as needed. |

It is a big choo-choo with wheels and and engine in the front. It is run by a "conductor". To go up hills, it says, "I think I can, I think I can..."

On a related note, I decided I'd try to take public transportation to get to work this week. Turns out that even if I'm willing to walk a mile and make lots of transfers, there are no public transportation options. None.

Except I have 1 option: the bus. After a 2 mile walk to the bus stop and a 2.5 hour bus drive. |
