I don't think it is necessarily the media that makes it look cool.

A friend in high school got pregnant when she was 17. Her friends all thought it was the most fabulous thing in the world. Even with my sister telling them how much pregnancy wasn't fun and how tired she was and all that. But she had a cute little toy that loved her unconditionally and provided a purpose and her parents didn't kick her out so she still had a support network and blah blah blah.

She was an inspiration, not a cautionary tale. And soon several of her friends were also pregnant. I swear, the attitude before the reality was more like having a tomagochi than a responsibility.
