iPod Touch question

Hey guy -- I'm thinking about getting one of the new iPod Touches (toying with the idea, more like; I haven't really seriously started considering it, but I'm still thinking about it), and I had a couple of questions for anyone who might have one:

Watching movies: How does that work? Do you download a full movie to watch it at your leisure, or do you have to have a wifi connection so that it streams to your iPod?

Does the charge seem to be pretty good? How long does the charge run for you?

I am *NOT* interested in the iPhone at all. I don't care if it has a camera either (which the iPod Touch doesn't have anyway).

Is it only one guy that can respond? I hope I'm not the only one...

Download the movie and load on the iPod.

Susan has a "Classic" (the generation right before the new 120 GB model currently being sold). She went to download a movie from iTunes to watch on her current trip (yes, you can watch a . She found out that when you rent a movie from iTunes that 1) You only have 24 hours from the DL to watch the movie, and 2) you can only watch it once.

You download movies via iTunes on your computer and watch them on the Touch at your leisure. However, video eats up battery power pretty fast. Short battery life was a common complaint about the first Touch, but I'm sure there will be some user responses about the supposedly improved battery performance on the new model.

If the Touch had a camera, I would have snagged one already. (Though, really, I don't have a good reason why.)

Per Kevy's post above - Actually, you have 30 days from the time of your rental purchase to begin watching the movie. The 24 hour period begins as soon as you first start watching.

I sometimes rent from my AppleTV here at home. 9I have it hooked up to my projector, and the results are quite satisfactory.) I really wish the rental period could be extended to 2 days. I often fall asleep or tire of watching on the first evening, but have to work the following night. That one extra evening would be a boon.

I may have misunderstood what she was telling me - thanks for clarifying.

Good info!

On those movies, did you get a sense of how large a typical 90-minute movie took up memory-wise? I mean, if one bought one of those 1.2G iPods and the movie took up 500Mb...

Bootstrap Bill is swanky
I'm thinking about getting one just for wireless web access.

Are there any better alternatives that cost the same, or less?

A full length feature takes up about 1GB, give or take a bit. Not problem if you have an 8 or 16 GB Touch (and haven't filled it up completely with theme park soundtracks, shark movies and punk - oh wait, that's me.)

I have a 160GB classic and rip movies from dvd onto the computer all the time. There are lots of 3rd party software programs to do it and then you just import them into iTunes and load to the iPod to watch as many times as you want. My kids each have iPods too and can usually watch about 2 movies before the battery dies. They don't have the Touch though, theirs are 80GB classics.

Not that I know anything about that
