Not that it makes it okay, but if I remember correctly, the guy with 9 children dropped off either 6 or 7 of them. His wife had just died and he felt completely overwhelmed. Within a few days, he returned to reclaim his children.

I can't find any story on them being reclaimed (not that it didn't happen). Though I did find a story of another out of state kid (a girl from Iowa) being reclaimed.

About them being dropped off

Apparently they were taken in by an aunt, not the father.

It was a big brooha around here, maybe they thought lots of KS parents would be heading over the state line.
