We stayed there a few years ago when we took the kids on the Grand Canyon Railway's Polar Express. The hotel was fine, but it was nothing extraordinary. It was more of a matter of convenience, but if I had my druthers...I'd stay in Flagstaff. The Little America Hotel in Flag is great during the winter for the amount of acreage you have to play around in.

As part of our Polar Express package, we had vouchers to eat breakfast and dinner at Max and Thelma's. I'm not sure my taste buds have recovered from their pseudo Thanksgiving Dinner.

We're thinking of using some of our Girl Scout cookie money to take the train to the Grand Canyon this spring, and if we do...I'm sure we'll spend a night in Williams again. Out of curiosity, do you think the dome car would be worth the expense for a bunch of 10-11 year olds? Is the space more limited or does it provide for more elbow room that the regular cars?

I didn't see the coach class cars so I can't compare. That said, I would say the seating was a bit more cramped than the first class seats downstairs (but Lani and I were still comfortable).

That said, I don't know if children are allowed in the dome class. They do not offer children's fares for that class (or deluxe class which has the open air car). I don't know if that means they prohibit children or that if you want to bring them you have to pay adult fair. But there were no kids in there with us.

If they are allowed, I'd say they probably aren't worth the money ($60 more per person each way) since appreciated the views are more subtle than overwhelming (like with the Grand Canyon itself) and they'll probably be more focused on each other anyway.

And Lani was in a place with snow on the ground. That wouldn't happen unless I dragged her along. QED.

Hey guys! Long time no lounge. Life gets in the way some times, you know.

But I HAD to come and post because I was thinking of Lisa as I was doing my 10 mile walk on Sunday (training for the WDW half in 1.5 weeks!)

At the local park -- I saw a pair of black swans with 3 cygnets*. I'm hoping to get out there to walk again on Thursday - and try to bring my camera in case they're near the walkway again. There's a lot of water there, so I think they're semi-permanent residents.

*Full disclosure, I did spell baby swan correctly, but had to look it up to verify
