![]() A sad and tragic accident. She seemed such a nice and good eprson, I know she worked very hard for AIDS related causes (besides being beautiful and a good actress). RIP and condolences for her family. |

To bewitched's point, I find that beginner slopes tend to be more packed-down, and depending on the time of year/weather... icier.
I find myself increasingly sad over this. ![]()

I can honestly say I've only been skiing once in my life and couldn't even get up the rope tow to the bunny slope, that's what it was called eons ago when I was young. So all I could picture in my head was this tiny slope with a rope tow. Do they even use rope tows anymore?! After that my Dad just left me in the lodge and they went and had fun. I had hot chocolate!
I know of many that were injured skiing. It is truly sad to have such a tragic accident happen and she was with an instructor. I guess it just goes to show horrible accidents can happen anywhere at any time. I feel bad for everyone involved, especially her poor children. I'm sure it's a horrific loss for them. My heart aches for them. |

Celebrities shouldn't ski, ride ATVs, fly in small planes, drive cars, ride cars into tunnels with the media chasing them...
Sad. My older sister is going skiing in Tahoe soon. She should wear a freakin' helmet. |

Horribly sad story.
Rope tows are still in use in various places. Speaking of which, there's a John Cheever story about a bickering couple, a little girl and a rope tow. It does not end well.

Out of curiosity, did you listen to Forum on NPR this morning? I go lengthy periods without thinking about John Cheever and so you're the second one to bring him up today.

I did not. But for the rope tow remark, there's a good chance I would not have thought of him again until Christmas.
