Yeah, what? I don't think that's even possible.
Didn't every four persons have a separate check? I know our four-person check was well taken care of. Still was glad Kevy and others stuck around for the final accounting. But if each such check was separate, $120 would likely be more than the total of one of the checks. So are we saying there were multiple shortages on multiple checks? I'm very glad "our" check was paid in full there and then, and the only thing I kept throwing more and more token cash at was the really nice tip I wanted Esmeralda to have. Let's please get to the bottom of this. The Soup Kitchen is my favorite Resort eatery by far, and I hate to think their bending over gracefully backwards to let us take over the Queen's room was met with chicanery or unacceptable negligence on our part. One thing that might have been overlooked is that I don't believe that the alcohol was subject to discount (although I may be wrong). I personally counted the credit card slips and cash and the grand total was only about $730 (the original un-discounted bill was $796 and change).
I looked at everything twice, the waitress three times and I got the manager involved. I believe that there was a multitude of issues which contributed. The bill should NOT have been split (for example, Susan and I ended up on different bills). I am not poor, but I really can't afford to be doing this.

Good point on the booze not being discounted, but I don't think that wouldn't account for a $120 discrepancy in it's entirety. I know after we did the cash and cc on our bill, we had what equated to a 30% tip which should have accounted for an underage elsewhere. The way it was split was ridiculous and definitely caused issues.
Was there any chance someone forgot to pay for their meals in their entirety? Kevy if you were the one that ended up covering the shortage, we all need to cover you. I think there were over 20 people there, so at less than $10pp that should do it? Does that work for all? |

There were 24 peeps, $5/person would cover the diff.

I'll gladly put in $5 or $10 or $15 to cover this ... but I still want to know what happened.
I don't see anything wrong with a bill for 24 people being split into smaller and far more manageable segments. If Kevy and Susan ended up on two separate bills, that's a fault of the restaurant and nothing to do with the concept of splitting the check up into easier bits. I assume that incidence of double-billing is not the cause of this particular problem. But was that the only double billing, or might there have been more of that sort of thing? It's semi-confusing having 2 threads dealing with this subject, but I'm reiterating my request to find out if there was a shortage across several of the checks, or if there was one check that was entirely unpaid. And it seems to me if everyone's just throwing in what they think is their share of an $800 tab, to be figured by 24 people, it's a lot easier for shortages than if everyone has to contribute their portion of a $150 tab, and only has to figure it with 3 other people to arrive at the proper total with generous tip. But whatever. Keith suggested the separate checks and it worked very well for us. I could see clearly our bill was paid, and that the tip was not as hefty as I'd like ... so I was able to throw a little more money at it. I'm sorry if other groupings did not find that as convenient or were somehow negligent. |

We were on a seperate check, but I wouldn't mind flipping $5 or $10 to Kevy.

I don't think separate checks were the problem, but that they didn't do it as they said they would, or in any logical way whatsoever. Many if not most couples were split on 2 checks. It was just a mess. Doesn't really matter what happened, for $5 a person, problem is solved and our good friend Kevy isn't f'd again. Done deal. Solid. BTW, I really like the Aussie method of bills. Tip and tax included in the price of the food. No calculating necessary. Nice and clean. |
