The river leading to the Kepirohi Falls:
![]() The Kepirohi Falls: ![]() ![]() ![]() Me ![]() Me again ![]() At this point, I saw people jumping in the water. I decided to join them. It was freezing cold but wonderful. I sat at the base of the falls and let the water pour over my head. There's nothing that feels like it... ![]() ![]() ![]() On the way out, we saw some more flowers. ![]() ![]() ![]() We set sail again and headed off to Nan Madol. There were a lot of mangrove trees and rock islands on the way. We even saw some stingrays and manta rays but none of those pictures came out... Sorry. ![]() ![]() ![]() We docked at a small island and had lunch. ![]() ![]() ![]() The tour company provided us lunch. This was my lunch. It was a bento wrapped in a banana leaf. There was chicken, rice and a boiled egg inside. ![]() Random shots of the beach... ![]() ![]() A nearby island: ![]() TBC |

The captain pointed out Nan Madol in the distance. It didn't look like much at first...
![]() ![]() But as we got closer, Nan Madol revealed itself to be a mysterious and amazing half sunken lost city. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We docked and got out to explore the city. The whole place was a building built right on the water. There wasn't any island that the structure was on. Everything that came up from the water was put there by man. ![]() Quote:

Some close up shots of the columns:
![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a couple of structures that were built on the inside of the walls: ![]() The tour guide told us that many people believe this structure to be an altar or sacred burial area. My theory is that they just didn't want us farting around in that area for fear that someone would climb all over the structure. ![]() So, of course, I didn't go near it... ![]() ![]() ![]() Nearby was the Nan Madol Toilet... ![]() Trails lead all over Nan Madol. ![]() ![]() ![]() Someone said this flower smelled good: ![]() Next... kayaking around Nan Madol... |

![]() After a bit, we all jumped into kayaks that the tour brought along with us. We paddled around the sunken city. It was amazing. ![]() ![]() I love how this tree is still growing sticking out of the water. They also explained how mangrove trees survive in the salt water by siphoning out the salt water and all that... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This doggie greeted us at the shore at one point. He was cute. ![]() Nan Madol was pretty magical to me. Amazing to think how it was built and who built it and why. At this point in the kayak trip, the rain came out and we were pretty miserable. But it was neat paddling through the mangrove forests and seeing bats flying above us. It was something out of Temple of Doom. ![]() Nan Madol was a definite highlight of the trip. If you get a chance, see it! ![]() The last of the pictures I have of Pohnpei are pics of a shipwreck we saw on the way back to the hotel. It was a Japanese fishing boat that hit a reef and was deemed not salvageable. So of course, the owners just left it there... ![]() ![]() Pau for now... ![]() |
