The simplest way I can explain it is like this:
Edge and 3G are types of cell data networks. So you can access the internet from an iPhone (or other type of smart phone) just on the go. Wifi is the connection that wireless computers/laptops use. The iPhone can connect to a wireless network, like at a Starbucks, airports or home if available. When it connects to the wireless network it can do internet things faster (I think). I rarely turn on 3G unless I'm travelling and require web distraction. There are so many ways to connect to data services, it makes sense to turn off what you're not using to save your battery charge. I forward my cell calls to the office phone during working hours, turn on airplane mode and I can usually get around 4-5 days on a battery charge. With all connections turned on, I'm doing good to make it into the second day. |
