My dad and my grandmother were both born on 9/9. My dad would have been 85 yesterday. My granny was born 9/9/1901 and she died in 2001, so she did make it to the century mark.

8 months after my dad's aunt who made it to 103 1/2.

My mom insists she is ready to go but she is the youngest of 4 sisters @84.

She was the youngest of 5 sisters. She made it the farthest (her body finally gave out on her the last couple years, but her mind never faltered), but all but 1 of the sisters made it well into their 90s all in relative health until the very end, and the only one who didn't (my grandmother) was a chain smoker who died of emphysema at the tender age of 80 or so.

It gives me hope for my own longevity, however it's all women on that side of the family, except for my dad, so it may not be a particularly accurate gauge.

That is great their minds kept up with them. And, that is true about the gender factor.

The men in our family are a bit nervous as the men seem to die kind of young while the women live pretty long {as long as they take some sort of care of themselves}.

My great-grandmother lived to be 107. She had a lumpectomy at 105. Longevity is prevalent in my family (when we don't die of cancer).

And if my great-grandmother were alive today, she would be wondering, "Why is it so dark in here?"

It is true in my family as well that we live a long time if we don't die first.
