Rocky Horror was better acted than Gone With the Wind.

If a cult film is like a cult, then it is something that gets a strong and unhealthy hold on people beyond what is logical or reasonable, logic and reason in this case being a function of cinematic merit. Of course, one man's cult is another man's religion. Therefore, profitability should not be a barrier to calling something a cult film. In that vein, I suggest that obviously profitable cult films include "Titanic," "Star Wars," "Transformers," etc.
