I find Valentine's Day to be entirely awkward ("let's be romantic because we're told we're supposed to be romantic today") so I'll say yes.

I've never actually seen Valentine's Day stuff occur between non-romantic coworkers so it is hard for me to say how awkward it would be. Is nudity involved?

Good for you!

Ja, this one is right across the street from the office. My taskmaster did not work me hard enough yesterday, I'm not sore. I can feel it in some muscles, but overall I feel pretty good. Did nice power walking today (and got very winded going up hill, pant pant) tomorrow back to the gym for more weights. I'm enjoying this, so far.

No nudity, Alex. Sorry.

Several ladies are passing out little bags of candy with Valentine's Day cards attached. It just seems weird to me.

It's only weird if you consider prepubescent children trading valentine's day cards weird.

Which I do.

I was just thinking about that the other day. The majority of V-day stuff out there seems to be primarily aimed at children. Isn't Valentine's Day supposed to be romantic? As much as I enjoyed doing the card thing as a kid, I almost feel compelled to "take Valentine's Day back" for grownups. Not gonna happen, though. I guess since we are stealing Halloween it all balances out

There's been a long thread about this on another message board I read. Those fine with the kids seem to view Valentine's Day through the lens of the various different kinds of love.

So it isn't just eros (thus standard romance for adults), but also philia (thus school children and coworkers).

Personally, I just think it is that adults enjoy mildly sexualizing children at an age when we think them innocent of such. So we like watching them exchange Valentine's Day cards in the same way we're amused when, at 4 years old Billy comes home saying that Sally is his girlfriend and they're going to get married. Or when Sally (or Billy if such is his wont), puts on mom's sexy little black dress and ****-me lipstick. It's why the little kid in Role Models hitting on women like he was 20 tickled the funny bone.

Sooooo..... so far Seattle seems like San Francisco without the urine. I like it and wish we were staying for more than one day. Have to come back sometime soon.

Visit the U District or Pioneer Square on a Sunday morning and you'll feel more familiar (assuming public urine distribution remains the same as 13 years ago; also more frequent rain helps with urine removal so it doesn't get so stale).
