A retail developer's poor business acumen is, at least temporarily, my gain.

There's a shopping center up the street that was built a couple years ago, ostensibly as a place for big-box furniture stores to congregate. Without going into too much detail, it's a stupidly awful location. It's been a revolving door of furniture stores in there since it opened, and I've literally never seen more than a dozen cars parked in its expansive lot.

Why is this my gain? Because they're getting desperate so they've gone hipster. Heavy facebook/twitter presence, a new shopping space that's kind of a hipster swap meet, weekend farmer's market, and (so far my favorite part) twice weekly lunch truck gatherings. Yay! Hipster fuel within biking distance from work!

Short Stop BBQ has some damned tasty sauce!

I just booked our room for our DLR trip in June- we went with the Carousel Inn because of it's proximity to the Park, as well as a really great rate on a Concierge level room. Anyone here ever stayed there?

Might have been the Carousel that we stayed in. It was 1996 so I don't remember well anymore. I remember being pleased, and we got a 5-day pass to the park for the price of a .... 3 day maybe. It was a deal, anyway.

It was nice because we could park the car for free, and take their shuttle to the park, and get dropped off pretty close to the door. Loved that. Turns out it's not that far to walk (I think) but we didn't know that at the time.

The Carousel Inn is right across Harbor at the maingate, so I don't think this was the one. I checked out lots of reviews, etc, and the area we are staying in is supposed to be pretty nice. (They've been renovating the hotel). They have a pool on the roof, so we may have to have a swim/fireworks viewing meet.

Is that the shopping area that backs up to the 405 housing Linders, Bassett and La Z Boy (near the other shopping area housing Ashley and some other big box furniture stores?)

If so, there is an awesome mom and pop place in there (next to Ashley) called Home Expressions. It's where I got my couch. LOVE THEM!

Oh and food trucks are awesome too.
