And to think, as a group of Ju Kooners, we've never even experienced (and likely never will) the Sunken City off Point Fermin - which was my prime Palos Verdes tripster destination (in fact, my prime Southern California tripster destination) for a decade and a half. The peninsula is a treasure trove of weird history, natural splendor, psychic phenomena, and adventure galore. I want to spend at least part of every Ju Koon carousing around P.V. ![]() |

HI!
|
My earliest memories of PV were from the 60's both of the wonderful cottages my Dad always drooled over, driving through the subsidence area and of Marineland (now the site of the new Terrenea Resort).
A little more research, looking at and comparing maps and photographs, has both Chris and I grounded on what was placed where in the area. The fountain that is now at the entrance drive (on top of the cliff where we first drive in) is the same fountain shown in the pictures of the Resort. The actual resort was located at the base of the road. The colonnade of palms that we walked down after getting ice cream was the Royal Palms Recreation Center developed by Roman Sepulveda in 1908. Those fireplaces and dance floor were a part of the Rec Center. MacArthur Park has some other fascinating things to explore. There's nothing like old gun battlements to bring WWII back to life. |

I just had a memory trigger of visiting one of the LA Nike Missile sites as a cub scout - odd to think of such things scattered among the suburban neighborhoods

I have not been there since 'diving' at Marineland, I think Brendan and I must come and see the area soon!

![]() (Heheh, this is just the most recent Ju Koon thread I could find, but there were separate ones for past Ju Koons. This was about last year's; should we start a 2011 version?) As you may have heard, Ju Koon has been moved - permanently I think - to the Saturday falling between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur (the Juish high holy days) each year ... this year falling on Saturday, September 30, 2011. Time to make plans for the set-up (though, of course, part of the fun is that we really don't know what will happen or where we'll end up). Calling Not Afraid, calling Not Afraid! Time to spill at least the initial beans for your Ju Koon Twenty Eleven concept! |
