I first went to death row visiting in the mid 1990s back when families and lawyers could meet the inmates in a fairly convivial group lunchroom setting instead of the one on one cages they use now. I saw Richard Ramirez a couple of times. I had the usual "oh, wow, there's . . ." reaction one has when seeing a famous person.

He was there with his very strange wife. She seemed to make him uneasy.

I think life made him uneasy. Which may explain why he did what he did...
