That's from Disneyland
Tried to go to the exhibit today, but the hour wait turned us away. I feel like I've experienced through the countless friends who have documented their visits, but still bummed.

MouseAdventure is next weekend (8/18 or 19), and you get exclusive access while you play. You don't have to wait afterward...
The lines have been long every day it seems. Maybe not as bad on a weekday. |

We thought there was going to be a long wait from how long the line looked, but it moved very quickly. What we assumed was going to take half an hour took 5 minutes.
It was so worth seeing. The collection is just amazing. This exhibition is the highlight of it, soon to be lost to time. I don't know which is "worse"; that this was all in private hands visible to a mere handful of people on earth, or that it's soon to be scattered to the winds and separated forever. The individual pieces, many of them, are treasures that will be loved by new owners - but the amazingness of this collection even somehow existing is soon to be gone forever. I'm tempted to bid on a few of the items, but I know it will be a madhouse. |

Oh the buggy from Adventures Thru Inner Space has me all consumed with lust. Thankfully, my budget is nowhere near what it will sell for.

I wish they hadn't posted an expected range of bids with all the items, because it tempts me. The Skyway Bucket for only $4,000?? I'd pay that for it in a heartbeat. (By contrast, the Peoplemover car was listed as expecting to go for $20,000). So, we registered for the auction, but may or may not deign to participate. It will probably be depressing and stressful.

8/30/14 - Disneyland -10k or Bust.
|
A link for anyone that like me, had no idea what the hell this thread was talking about.
That's From Disneyland And who bids $8,000 for a trash can? Hey! They have a "Tomorrowland Big Fig" up for auction. I have one one those. Some really hoopy froods gave it to me.

I went today (8/16/18) and it was busy. Parking was terrible but not for those who parked behind the building. Lines of cars looking for spots with a 1/4 empty lot behind.
All in all, it was wonderful to see. Hard to believe Kraft had all this stuff and equally that Disney doesn't want it back for their Archives. Was pleased to see the old 80s wall map was going for $100-200, I've got one. |

I have a weird ambivalence about this as it’s sort of a graveyard of the Disneyland of my youth. It strikes me like the 50th Fireworks display that made me nostalgic for all the rides that were no longer there. Bittersweet nostalgia.

Yes, it's a graveyard of sorts. But I was just astounded that someone had the clout and money to collect all this stuff that I just assumed Disney destroyed lest anyone get their hands on it. The owner of all this stuff was well-connected (he was a talent agent with some big Disney talent on his roster), but it still amazes me he was able to amass all this stuff from Disney, of all companies.
The sad part to me is that this amazing collection is going to be split into a thousand separate pieces. And though now a thousand people will enjoy a small part of it rather than a handful of people enjoying the totality of it ... I feel the collection is far greater than just the sum of its parts. It was certainly something amazing to behold ... and if I had a place to put a Skyway cab or that Main Street miniature, I just might have put in some bids. |
