The whole "open doors you shouldn't" line really makes no sense when you think about the fact that Desmond (at this point clearly not one of the Others) was living in there worry-free.

I don't really see a correlation. From what Desmond said, he was brought there to push the button. All the guy said was they were opening doors they shouldn't - as in they weren't invited.

The thing that didn't make sense to me was that he seemed to think they should have known there were others there. They were there for a few weeks prior to acquiring that knowledge.
