Lisa has sat many a cat that exhibit this behavior - they are usually the shy cats. Of our own coven of cats, Scoundral will occasionally "go camping" and climb under the covers, under our knees where we make a tent while sitting up in bed.

Buster burrows as well, but, he's our shy one.

But, I love looking for the hidden lumps in the bed when I try to find my fuzzy charges. So stelthy!

Boris is definitely not shy. Well, sometimes around new people, and he doesn't like my dad AT ALL, but usually he's there on the floor, paws in the air, displaying his alligator-patterned kitty tum-tum to the world. But then he likes to burrow. He really likes to curl up next to me on the sofa under my dark teal afghan. He'll jump up next to me and paw at it until I put it over him. Oh, he's perfectly capable of burrowing by himself, as I'll often come home to a Boris-shaped teal lump on the couch, but it's more fun if I'll do it for him.

Here's one of Boris on top of the teal afghan. You can't tell from the picture, but his front paws are hanging off the end of the couch, sticking straight out into space.


Here's another one of Boris curled up - you get a good view of his little stubby tail.

Some cats are wonderfully affectionate. I babysat for a family that owned the sweetest cat. On my first time there the cat came over to me and curled up in my lap automatically.

It seems though that most cats save this affectionate nature solely for their owners. If I go to a friend's house and they have a dog, I'll most probably get some attention from it. But if I go to a friend's house and they have a cat, I'll probably attempt to get the cat to come over, make noises, beg and plead, throw a cat toy, make silly faces.....and still the cat will stay a good 5 feet away, amused at how he's making me look stupid.

Eventually I'll go over and pick up the cat like an overzealous 5 year old and try force it to love me. It will then get pissed off and attempt scratch me as it drops to the floor and runs away.

I think this is why people that don't have cats say "Oh, you have a cat? I hate cats."

Oh, and that's the benign version - sometimes you visit a friend's house and the cat decides you're the enemy, instead of a goofy being come to amuse it.

I know he's a big cat, but do you really think there is enough fur there to make a sweater and cap?
