Man seriously injured on WDW Peter Pan

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/busin...home-headlines

Quote:
The condition of a man injured earlier today while attempting to board the Peter Pan ride at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom has dramatically improved, said an Orange County Sheriff's spokesperson.

The man, born in 1935, has yet to be identified, but according to Jim Solomons with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, he was injured with what was originally considered life-threatening injuries and transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Because the man's injuries are not serious and there is no crime associated with this incident the Sheriff's Office is clearing the scene and will conduct no investigation.

It appears the man was with his wife and grand-daughter when trying to get onto the ride, which consists of seats that move along a conveyor belt. The victim's wife and grand-daughter made it onto the ride, but when the man tried to get onto the seat, he fell off of the moving conveyor belt into the path of the next vehicle, said Solomons.

OMG, I have kidded with friends about this kind of Peter Pan accident at the Tragic Kingdom ever since first going there with pals in the early 80's. In fact, every time we board the attraction, we pantomime exactly this type of accident occuring. Hahahahahaha! I knew it would happen for reals one of these days.

At the end of that article, I love/hate how reporters believe it's their duty to end the story by pointing out all the other semi-recent Disney World-related accidents and injuries:

Quote:
In July, Disney asked the state to check out the Disney-MGM Studios' Tower of Terror ride when a teen from England, Leanne Deacon, 16, collapsed and was hospitalized with bleeding in the brain after riding the simulated elevator attraction. The ride was found to be operating normally.

In the past year, there have been several other accidents with injuries and death at Disney parks.

In June, Daudi Bamuwamye, 4, of Pennsylvania collapsed on Epcot's Mission: Space ride and later died. Inspections showed no signs of ride malfunction.

In August, Jerra Kirby,12, died after passing out at the wave pool at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon. Investigators later determined she had a medical condition.

In February 2004, Javier Cruz, 38, a costumed Disney worker, died when he was pinned beneath a float during a Magic Kingdom parade.

I hadn't heard of that one! "Mommy, what happened to Mickey?"

Can you WDW vets explain the loading deal? Is it an omnimover, like FF suggested?

WDW has a moving belt for boarding, but the rest of the ride is essentially the same. Makes boarding faster, except of course if someone falls.
