It's unlikely that I'd go all the way to Pasadena, all the way back down, then back up the next day. It'd make more sense to go to Pasadena, stay up there with family, then Jen would drive up that night or the next day, and we'd drive back separately Sunday. Train would have been good...but no Saturday service on the OC line.
