![]() Ralph, the books get much MUCH better around book 5 or so (when they start becoming more of a mystery/cliffhanger). Keep on reading!!! I love the multitude of literary references that are made throughout each book.... I know there are websites about the subject of literary reference in SoUE. I was wholly disappointed with the movie because of Jim Carrey. He wasn't playing Count Olaf, he was playing himself. I can't decide whether it was a complete miscast, or if he just needed a director to tone him down. Though I did enjoy the production design, sets, kids that played the Baudelaires, and especially Meryl Streep.
