What digital camera do you have?

It seems that my work's old digital camera went to the big Foto Hut in the sky, and I've been placed in charge of purchasing it's replacement.

I'm looking for one that's around 4 megapixels, under $300, easy to use, & takes alkaline batteries (a must for when we're in Mexico & Rome & not able to recharge.)

What digital camera do you have, and what would you reccommend about it?

Ours is a Craptacula 0013 from Nikon. 1 mega pixel.

Actually it's a Nikon Coolpix 3100. I think it's a 3 megapixel. It's decent. Not as good as the one Isaac uses. Our camera is okay, but the batteries really stink. They decharge if they're just sitting on the counter not being used. Horrid. When I take it to the park, they'll die after only a couple of hours.

Bad batteries...

Anyway, good luck on the camera hunt.

Canon S60 - a step below Zappp's but probably still more camera than you want according to your disclaimer. I like the compact size and quality. I also like not messing with alkelie batteries with limited lifespans. A normal plug adpator has allowed me to charge up in locals with different electricity standards.

My parents have a Kodak EasyShare. They seem happy with it. It takes AA batteries and is compact.

That's what I'm leaning towards..... The camera I'm replacing is a 5 year old Kodak... so I would think that everyone who would use it would find it easy to use.

The reason the alkaline batteries are important is because when we're in Mexico (and this year Rome) we don't have the ability to charge batteries....we camp....very primatively, no electricity at all.

We don't have a Kodak any more, but were very happy with our previous Kodak.

I have Sony cameras that appear to rank out of your requirements....battery and price wise. But I'm gonna talk about them anyways! I love them both. My old one is a 3.1 megapixel DSCP-1 and is 5 years old (nothing wrong, just wanted something newer). My brand spanking new one (is not in front of me but) is 7.1 megapixel and it takes both compact flash and memory stick cards (2 different slots) which is ubercool! I swear by Sony's quality (a little pricey though). i know they have a several levels of cameras, just not sure if the battery is what you'll need on the other models.

I buy camera's for our designers and installers at my work. I buy Pentax Optio's... s40's I believe. 3 megapixels.

Costco has the s50's - which are 4 mp's for around $250-$300. It uses 2 AA batteries or rechargable ones... bought from costco it came with a battery charger, batteries of both types and a case.

All metal body - nice and small - easy to use or more complicated if you like to mess with it. Just a turn of the dial from auto-everything to varying degrees of do-it-yourselfness.

Can't say enough good things about them. They take excellent photos.

We've got the Optio 450 and LOVE it. It's the higher end, with a 5x optical zoom, 4 MP, uses rechargeables, and is out of your price range. But we can vouch for Pentax quality, if ours is any indication. And the stainless body is great, really durable.
