![]() It is with a very heavy heart that I must report the end of a great run of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Art Theatre in Long Beach. I was a member of that cast back in its Balboa days. If you can make it this Thursday (tomorrow night), I highly recommend it. In addition to getting to see what is considered the best Rocky Cast (Midnight Insanity) currently performing, you'll be treated to an audience full of semi-naked people because it's also their monthly Lingerie Night.
![]() Sadly, I won't be able to go because there's just no way I can stay out that late on a Thursday and be conscious at work the next morning. I'd consider calling in sick, but this week I'm literally the only one working in my department (there are normally three of us). ![]() |

Nooooooooo!
When I discovered this virtual time machine a couple of years ago (at Chernabog's instigation of a group visit), I was simply amazed that this was still going on ... and, hahaha, even recognized a couple of people from back in the day. oooooh, i wanna do this. Hmmm, think I'll PM a link to this thread to a couple of people I know in Long Beach. Awful short notice, tho. And, huh? Thursday night??? |

Omg. There is no way I can do this and function on Friday. /sigh.
Never fear though, they are moving the show up the street a bit to the Sea Point Marina Hotel. First show, August 5th. Quote:

Awww.
The Art Theatre in Long beach was the place I first saw Rocky. It happened to be a lingerie night--and I've not worn fishnets with a skirt in public since. ![]() I've not been in quite some time now, and tomorrow's going to be no different (I already have plans), but I'm very sad to see it go.

Ah, memories. I believe I saw this film about 100-150 times as a kid growing up in NY. Unfortunately, I never got to see it at the 8th street playhouse where the whole thing began. I always heard that the audiences there were insane.

Um, it was the Waverly where the whole thing began (or did I mix up the order with 8th Street in my addled brain?)
Anway, Mr. Scary Twin, where did you see it all those times 'growing up in NY?' |

How sad!
Even sadder is the hellish day I have on Friday which starts at 6:30 am and ends at 8 pm which means no late night for me. |

Oh fine, maybe I'll just watch my DVD of Rocky in my most alluring underwear.

iSm - you're right - it was the Waverly where it all began. I first saw it in '78 at the New Yorker (the uptown theater showing it) before finally getting down to the 8th Street Playhouse, where the Waverly cast migrated to. The first time I saw it in the Village, my Mom and Dad took me and my two younger sisters. We waited outside, and when my youngest sister (who was 8 at the time) got upset by some random pot smokers, my Dad took her into the book store on the corner to find a Muppet book, which made her happy. Ah, memories!

Wow, learn something new every day. I always was under the impression that it was the 8th street playhouse where it started. My bad.
![]() I saw it at some small theater on Long Island. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the theater or the town (man, I'm getting old). They showed it every Friday and Saturday night and we were very frequent visitors, sometimes on both nights each week in the summer. I started going when I was about 13 years old so this would have been around 1979-82? I've seen it on this coast a more than a few times as well. To this day, it freaks me out when I see Susan Sarandon in something. She will always be Janet to me. ![]() Last edited by Motorboat Cruiser : 07-27-2006 at 12:52 AM. |
