I think one of the best moments for me was when John Stewart let Marketa Irglova finish her thank you's after she was prematurely cutoff by the Conti band. I thought that was pretty cool. (Although, I'd hate to see it as some sort of ongoing thang in years to come.) But it was classy for Stewart to do and I've often wondered why previous hosts didn't do the same in years past.

Pretty good show. Moved along nicely. I thought Helen Mirren had the best look and the Day-Lewises the collective worst. Diablo Cody wins the "F*ck, I should have bought underwear," award.
I guess it's okay that "No County For Old Men" won. Of the four best picture nominees that I saw, all had some serious problems, so why not give the Coens the award for their body of work. My best picture of the year is still "Hairspray." Nice couple of kids, neat story, etc., and maybe you love it in the context of the movie, but that winning song just about put me to sleep. Judging by the performances alone, I thought the "August Rush" song was going to win. This was my kids' first Oscars. They enjoyed seeing Giselle, Jadis, the girl from Princess Diaries, etc. My son is still not entirely clear on the actor concept.

A great awards show made even better by the company with whom it was viewed. Kudos to LSPE and Tom for hosting a lovely gathering with such a mélange of treats.
My favorite moment of the show was when Jon Stewart brought out Marketa Irglova to give her thanks that she had been denied by the timer. Pure class. The "Lawrence of Arabia on an iPhone" joke reminded me of this great spoof on the iPhone commercials using footage of David Lynch.

Y'all know that bringing Marketa Irglova out again wasn't Stewart's decision, right? I mean, still a classy move on the part of the producers, but Stewart doesn't have that kind of power as emcee.

But Diablo's outfit was perfect for her. And was it just us, or was there a huge return of the mermaid look in the dresses? Quote:
