Tic Tac Dough....the music they used while the contestant was making their decision will be in my head forever.
There was a time where my afterschool TV included High Rollers and Card Sharks, every single day. On summer vacation you could see Scrabble every morning. Of course, that was after watching Price is Right. For me, the mid-eighties was the golden era for game shows. ![]()

There was a time that I was a fan of the psychopath known as Wink Martindale. Well, not a fan of his, per se, but more of a fan of the ridiculous asides that he'd make on his various game shows.
He hosted a show called "Headline Chasers," which used magazine covers as the jumping off point for a series of questions. On one episode, the magazine cover was for the TV Guide. The question was "What year did the first issue of TV Guide appear?" The contestant answered the question correctly, but rather than move on in typical rapid-fire game show pace, Wink stopped the show dead with his own reverie, which he spoke aloud: "I wonder what the cover price was on the first issue of TV Guide...?" he mused. Silence. Pause. More silence. "Oh... probably twenty-five cents," he answered himself. Satisfied with his decision, the show continued... I also have a great memory of Wink screwing up questions on Tic Tac Dough and hearing the producer in voice-over correcting him. "In what country was the famous guerilla leader CHEE..." "That's Che, Wink..."

I *still* watch the Price is Right when I'm home sick. I even have the board game.
$ale of the Century! That's the other one I was trying to think of. Loved that one, too. And dammit, but I miss when people had to buy prizes on Wheel of Fortune. And how many ended up with that damn dalmation?
