If you're interested in Ska, I can recommend some 1st wave as well as 2nd wave stuff. I don't know much about the 3rd wave stuff which would include the band that plays at Disneyland-DTD often.

mmmm ska.

The band NA is referring to is Suburban Legends. They rock.

All the bands I used to listen to are pretty much dead - came and went during the mid-nineties. The Hippos, Save Ferris, Reel Big Fish - their later albums lost the ska sound and became mainstream, but I still love their earlier stuff.

The best though was the random cheap-o ska compilations you'd get at shows. "Hey Brother Can You Spare Some Ska" still gets heavy rotation on my iPod. Good stuff. Once you pick up a comp that works for you you can seek out the bands that are featured on it...

I was listening to this one on iTunes the other day. It's very cool. I'll have to get it.

My newest finds are from Teedra Moses. I heard her stuff on the TV show 'Noah's Arc' the other day. Really cool voice. Kind of reminds me of Amel Larrieux.

I have also been scrounging and searching for remixed oldies (like Christmas Remixed) and found an album called "What is Hip". It has a remixed version of 'Midnight at the Oasis' and 'Summer Breeze' that I love.

I have a ska version of Pachelbel's Canon. Actually played it as a recessional at a wedding.

Hehehehehe. I LOVE that someone else still listens to "brother can you spare some ska"!!!

I used to be into the third wave scene in the late nineties. (Not that I don't love bands like the Specials and Madness etc.... I can still listen to the two tone collection for days...) I loved Let's Go Bowling, hepcat, etc. I miss The Hippos, old Reel Big Fish too. Oh and Mealticket!! The trombone player used to sub sometimes at my high school and the days he was there he was like ska royalty to those who knew. I had him as my sub and I was like holy bloody hell batman, your band is so awesome. Damn, I even miss the Aquabats. (They still play and all but I just can't get into them the way I used to love them.) I had the mask and everything and would wear it to shows. The old days for me consisted of skankin' and the ska parade and so many hawaiian shirts. (I still have some of the best hawaiian shirts with like naked surfers on them. Even my son loves hawaiian shirts now.)

Oh and Shonen Knife... How I do love broken english rock songs about tomatoes and such... Or even better... Cibo Matto. Very cool.

The only new cd I have picked up is the latest Broken Social Scene. They were so good Monday night. So was Feist.

Tee hee. Ah, how that takes me back. Ska was at it's peak when I was in high school. Sort of makes me want to skank...

As for music, I rarely buy stuff. I listen to most stuff I like on launchcast. Right now it's permanently set to Sufjan Stevens. Which, conveniently enough plays lots of other artists I like too. I've been wanting the Lost In Translation soundtrack, as I'm unfamiliar with that sort of music, but I love it in the movie. There also doesn't seem to be a Bollywood station on launchcast...

I now have Super Rad in my head. This might take days to cure.

How do you pronounce Sufjan? I sat suf-jan. Is that right? Soof-jan? Suf-i-an?
