Russell is such a villain that I find him interesting to watch. I always appreciate when someone has a game plan, no matter how extreme, and sticks to it. In the first half of the first episode, he's pushing the rules to the absolute limit. If he gets to the end, he'll deserve it. If he gets booted quickly, he'll deserve that, too.

I don't know who is the worst....Russell, Yasmin, or Ben. At least Russell, as Mousepod notes, is interesting. Yasmin is just a b**** and Ben is just a wannabe thug.

Agreed on Yasmin and Ben. There are a lot of people I don't like this season.
Looks like people start to get smart next week at least. While Ben may be the first to have technically been "kicked out" of a challenge, I think Robb choking Clay was probably the real first of that category. He might not have been kicked out but if I recall correctly losing the point on the choke move ended the game, so he might as well have been.

Seems to me that Survivor only gets good later on when all the total nutjobs are finally out and it isn't nails on a chalkboard week after week....but that as the years go by, more and more of the castaways are total nutjobs, and it takes longer and longer for the decent people to get some screen time.

That is true. I usually can't even keep people straight until there's 8-10 left.

I think they're totally setting up to do an All-Star "Heroes vs. Villians" season. They have enough contestants from each extreme now to make it a fun show. It'd be interesting to see all the bad kids together - Johnny Fairplay, Russell, etc. Just imagine what they'd do to each other.

Russell got screwed by a bunch of bitter people. He played an awesome game, no matter how much you hate him, he was a master manipulator. Too bad he missed that one last step and Natalie took advantage.
Looking forward to Heroes vs. Villains! |

Russell lost because he got arrogant and it showed through. He went too far. It's one thing to look at the jury and say, "I'm the best that's ever played this game and I should win," it's another thing to come at them with the attitude of, "I'm the best that's ever played this game, and you're all morons." I do think he was a brilliant player, but from the beginning his attitude was that not only was he a better player than everyone else, he was a better person than everyone else.
He lost, he therefore by definition was not the best player. Part of the game is making people on the jury WANT to vote for you, and nothing in the rules say that they are obligated to vote for the best strategic player. And as annoying as Eric is, I think he made a valid point. Who says that coat-tail riding is automatically a "bad strategy"? She picked the right person to latch onto, she did all the right things to make sure he would trust her and keep her around. Whatever gets you to the end is a valid strategy.
