HI!
|
We are going to PV on Saturday since I already forfeited a job for it and hired someone to come in for the pets. If you are there I'll see you. If it's the 9th, I won't.

The caveat for us is that we can only attend the bread tossing part, as I have to leave midday Sunday for San Diego for the week, and I have a metric crap ton of things to do before then. I really needed to spend my friday off at home! Alas...

oh absolutely - as long as some people could make it, I'm all in. I didn't exactly scour the thread, but Pru, you were the only one (besides Chris and Lisa, who I talked to off the board) whom I recall said you were planning on attending - but then I read on facebook yesterday that you were leaving for Texas!
Ok, so now we have me, Lisa, Chris, Pru, the Rat, Goonie, Kevy and Susan - total rockin' fun. And yeah, I completely understand some people can only come for this part or that. Works. |

Since some people can only make it to the tide pools, and since that will be our only stop actually at the water's edge - that's where the ritual bread and crap-of-life toss will take place. Let's meet up at the parking lot at 1:30 - low tide tomorrow. X marks the spot:
![]() Directions: The Scenic Drive: Take the 110 Freeway south - way, way south. When you hit the land of ocean ports, look for the Anaheim Blvd. exit (it's the exit after Pacific Coast Highway). Turn left at the bottom of the ramp, and then right onto Anaheim Blvd. After passing a zone with oil refineries, you'll come to the 3-way intersection of Anaheim, Gaffey St., and Palos Verdes Drive North - which is the street you want. Turn left onto Palos Verdes Drive North, which is the uphill left (not the almost-u-turn downhill left onto Gaffey St.) Stay on PV North a ways, past Western Ave, and you'll see a sign for the left-hand turn-off onto Palos Verdes Drive East. Turn left on PV East - which is a windy mountain road up and over the crest. On the downhill side, especially if it's a nice day, things will start to get damn scenic damn quick. The road dead-ends at your 3rd Palos Verdes Drive, PV Drive South! Turn right. You'll be driving along some gorgeous coastline, including the wild land-shifting zone known as Portugese Bend (don't worry, it won't be shifting as you drive). When you come to the major intersection of PV South and Hawthorne Blvd., turn left. I think there's some kind of mini-mall and a gas station at this intersection. The left turn will take you into a residential area with the gay name "Oceana" (insert roll eyes here ... oh, wait ... ![]() There'll be an Oceana sign, and the street is actually called Calle Vincente even though it's basically a continuation of Hawthorne Blvd. * Just drive as far as you can on this, all the way to the ocean, and the street will veer right and enter a nice parking area. The end. The Somewhat Less Scenic Drive: * the less complicated and less scenic way is indeed to just take Hawthorne Blvd. Use the Hawthorne Blvd. exit off the 405 Fwy, and travel south on Hawthorne till you reach the ocean. Easier. More traffic, less pretty. |

What to Bring
If you have some type of water shoes, bring 'em. Tide pool areas are rocky and wet. If you're staying for more than the tide pools (Trump Nature Hike, Korean Friendship Bell and Point Fermin Raccoon Park are next), you might want to bring a snack to munch on somewhere along the way. Also, bring your sense of fun and adventure. Have some life-crap in mind that you'd like to be rid of. ![]() ![]() Fun for the Whole Family! ![]() |

For peoples who want to use their GPS, plug in "50 Calle Entradero, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA" - it will get you pretty close.
Also, Google link for those who want it

Do we need to bring bread, or is someone already bringing it?

Do you want to throw away your own life crap, or somebody else's?
I'd like to participate via remote breadcast. What time should I be shooting for in Florida? I don't have to synchronize with you guys, just need to know if I'm shooting for sundown, low tide, or something o'clock. What time should I cast my baguettes upon the water?

I'm bringing a loaf of bread. Life-crap is transferred to the bread on-the-spot, so you needn't have your own personal supply.
![]() I can't say exactly what time the ritual will take place this year. It looks like sunset is out because (a) most people can't stay anywhere near that long, and (b) if we stay at the water's edge that late, we'll be underwater. So it looks like late afternoon - between 3 and 4 pm local Pacific Daylight Time is my best guesstimate at this non-crystal ball part of the morning, if that helps you out in Florida. (Will you be going to the Ocean? Bay Lake? World Showcase Lagoon?) |
