A sewing question...
The dress I bought for my son's wedding zips up the back and I can't get dressed or undressed without help. I figured it out for the wedding but I live alone and I'd like to wear the dress at least one more time to a holiday dance on 12/19.
So I'm thinking of putting a zipper in the side seam. Has anyone done this? How long should the zipper be?

What about one of those zipper pullers? Or a lanyard that can go through the zipper and be removed after it's zipped?

Can be any length, depending on how tight the fit of the dress is. But measure from 1" under the arm to just above/about the hip for the easiest fit.
Also make sure you get the right kind of zipper, nothing worse than an itchy zipper digging into the soft flesh of your underarm.

hangers work - hook it in the zipper and then pull it up.

I do this all the time. I would just go this route, if you can. ![]() (Even while married, because Ken breaks zippers - seriously. You should have seen our wedding night because he jammed the zipper on my dress and I got stuck and had to be rescued by a friend who just happened to still be on site. I have no attention span. I posted this question and then got distracted by other projects.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the coat hanger method first before I disembowel the dress. At first I didn't think there was anything to latch on to. I also talked to a friend who I usually see at the dance and she offered to zip me up if I got there half-zipped (as opposed to half-whatever). But I can just see myself forgetting to ask for help before I leave and having to cut myself out of the dress (or less dramatically, sleeping in it). Nekked? Sorry, Kevy, I want to wear the dress. ![]()
